John Bowley & Sherwood Almshouses Charity

The Sherwood Almshouses Trust and the John Bowley Almshouses Trust merged in 2007 to form the John Bowley and Sherwood Almshouses Charity.

Our mission is to provide and maintain high quality housing and support for older people of limited means in Folkestone.

The John Bowley and Sherwood Almshouses is a registered social landlord that provides affordable well-maintained accommodation for people living in or having a local connection to Folkestone.

All our properties are self-contained and unfurnished, suitable for independent older people in reasonable health who are capable of looking after themselves.

The Properties

Social Life

The views of residents are considered in planning the layout of the gardens and many have their own growing spaces for flowers or vegetables.

The residents from both properties meet 2 or 3 times a year for organised social events like indoor short mat bowls and residents from both properties attend trustees meetings.

Community Involvement

The charity works with many local groups and community projects. These include the Kent Wild about Garden Scheme, Cheriton Lights Festival, Cheriton Christmas Lights and Incredible Edible Cheriton and Broadmead.
